Eventide ShimmerVerb: A 5 minute speed read of the manual and I was up and running (really only one or two functions I was unclear about).

There's a reason this is the first one everybody mentions. Wraps the sound in a warm ambient blanket. If you're just after a big shimmer, this is not it Great for doing weird granular style effects. It's a bit of an outlier in that its aims are very different from the two others. Second thing is that they're not all equally easy to use. First thing I can say is that they don't sound the same, we're not talking huge differences, but enough to be noticeable. So I did a quick and unscientific comparison between Valhalla Shimmer, Eventide ShimmerVerb and Animus.

Of course I have enough basic FX plugins, so will probably only buy something if I can save time in the future. But I don't want to buy into their tactical roll out of one algo at the time.

Prices usually go down when you re-use old code in a market too, so more is added, new stuff, then sell at a better perceived value (higher) or just lower the price for the old stuff, like a Waves bundle where each is around $3 or something when you got the special + coupon hoopla price.īut hey, if you like one of them, and if you miss that FX, sure $39 can be OK. The funny thing is Eventide HW box is 12 algo's, so in SW that would be, what? 12x $39 = 439? Kinda like the HW price. Well, I didn't buy he Valhalla one either (tried it actually), though I think he put in 3 reverb algo's and a few pitch algo's inside. We all know VST pricing is absurd, but looking around at other manufacturer, $39 for a shimmer reverb is in keeping with what others ask.

Even at $39 it feels like a money grab when they single out one algorithm at the time like that, not buying into that tactic.ĭoesn't Valhalla do the same thing though? Their Shimmer reverb costs $50 and it's just one single algorithm.
